Build Your Career in the Outdoor Industry
Independent Business Development & Client Partner
Remote | 100% Commission | Outdoor Industry
Big Canoe Digital is looking for an experienced sales and client relationship professional to close qualified opportunities and maintain strong relationships with the clients they bring into the agency.
This role begins after our Appointment Setter creates a qualified sales opportunity.
You take ownership of the sales conversation, determine whether the prospect is a good fit, close the account, and remain involved in the client relationship after the sale.
This is an independent, 100% performance-based opportunity. There is no salary, hourly pay, draw, or guaranteed compensation.
About the Role
Your primary responsibility is turning qualified sales opportunities into long-term Big Canoe Digital clients.
Our Appointment Setter handles prospect research, outbound prospecting, initial qualification, and appointment setting.
You take over once the qualified meeting is scheduled.
You will conduct sales conversations, understand the prospect’s business and marketing needs, explain how Big Canoe Digital can help, move the opportunity through the sales process, and close the account.
After the sale, you remain the client’s primary commercial relationship contact and help maintain a strong working relationship with the agency.
Big Canoe Digital handles marketing strategy, execution, fulfillment, reporting, and delivery of the services sold.
What You’ll Do
Conduct sales calls with qualified prospective clients
Understand the prospect’s business, goals, challenges, and marketing needs
Determine whether the opportunity is a good fit for Big Canoe Digital
Explain our services, positioning, capabilities, and pricing
Handle sales questions and objections
Follow up with prospective clients
Move qualified opportunities through the sales process
Close new agency clients
Maintain strong relationships with the clients you close
Stay aware of client satisfaction, concerns, and changing business needs
Help address relationship issues before they become larger problems
Identify appropriate opportunities for additional Big Canoe Digital services
Coordinate with agency leadership and delivery teams when client needs require attention
Represent Big Canoe Digital professionally throughout the relationship
This is not an account fulfillment role.
You are not expected to personally perform SEO, advertising management, web development, email marketing, photography, or other marketing services.
Your responsibility is the commercial relationship: close the client, maintain trust, stay connected, and help keep the relationship healthy.
Who We’re Looking For
We are particularly interested in people with experience in:
B2B sales
Business development
Agency sales
Digital marketing or advertising sales
Professional-services sales
Account management
Client relationship management
Outdoor-industry sales
Manufacturer representation
Sporting-goods sales
Brand partnerships
Hunting
Fishing
Archery
Marine and boating
Powersports
RV
Outdoor consumer products
Outdoor-industry relationships and experience are highly valuable.
We are looking for someone who is comfortable speaking with owners, executives, marketing leaders, ecommerce leaders, and other senior decision-makers.
You should understand how to sell based on business needs rather than simply reading from a script.
Compensation
This is a 100% commission-based independent contractor opportunity.
There is:
No salary
No hourly compensation
No draw
No guaranteed income
No cap on commissions
First 12 Months
You earn 15% of qualifying agency service revenue actually collected by Big Canoe Digital during the client’s first 12 months for clients you successfully close and continue supporting.
After the First 12 Months
Beginning with month 13, your commission becomes 5% of qualifying agency service revenue actually collected from that client for as long as:
The client remains active with Big Canoe Digital
You remain actively involved in managing the client relationship
You continue fulfilling the responsibilities of this role
The ongoing 5% commission is tied to continued client relationship management.
If you stop managing the relationship, leave Big Canoe Digital, or otherwise stop fulfilling the responsibilities associated with the account, ongoing commission ends.
What Commission Is Based On
Commission is calculated only on fees paid directly to Big Canoe Digital for agency services.
Qualifying agency service revenue can include:
Monthly marketing retainers
SEO services
Paid media management fees
Ecommerce and website services
Email marketing
Conversion optimization
Consulting and strategy
Photography and video
Audits
Other services provided and billed directly by Big Canoe Digital
What Is Not Commissionable
Client advertising and media spend are not commissionable revenue.
Money a client spends directly with Google Ads, Meta Ads, Microsoft Ads, Amazon Ads, TikTok Ads, or any other advertising or media platform is excluded.
Commission also does not apply to:
Software expenses
Platform fees
Taxes
Printing
Outside vendor expenses
Pass-through costs
Reimbursements
Other third-party expenses
Compensation Example
You close a client paying:
Big Canoe Digital agency service fee: $5,000 per month
Client advertising budget: $50,000 per month
Your commission is calculated only on the $5,000 monthly agency service fee.
During the client’s first 12 months:
Collected agency service revenue: $60,000
Your commission at 15%: $9,000
The client’s $600,000 in annual advertising spend does not factor into the commission calculation.
If the client continues into a second year at $5,000 per month and you continue managing the client relationship:
Year-two collected agency service revenue: $60,000
Your commission at 5%: $3,000
The 5% commission continues while the client remains active and you continue fulfilling the client relationship responsibilities of the role.
When Commission Is Earned
Commission is earned only after Big Canoe Digital receives the corresponding client payment.
If the client does not pay an invoice, no commission is earned on that unpaid amount.
If the client cancels, commission ends when qualifying collected agency service revenue ends.
If the client reduces or increases the amount paid to Big Canoe Digital, commission adjusts based on the qualifying agency service revenue actually collected.
What Makes a Successful Client Relationship
Closing the account is only the beginning of this role.
We are looking for someone who stays involved, communicates professionally, understands what matters to the client, and helps maintain a productive relationship between the client and Big Canoe Digital.
That includes knowing when to check in, recognizing concerns, communicating useful information back to our team, identifying additional needs, and helping ensure clients continue seeing value in the relationship.
Long-term client retention benefits both Big Canoe Digital and the person managing the account.
